The Salt Lake Tribune OBITUARIES Tuesday, June 18, 2002 Dalla Violet Mickelsen SALINA, UTAH mother, grandmother Violet Jorgensen Mickelsen, age 83, died June 15, 2002 in Richfield, Utah. She was born December 26, 1918 in Redmond Utah, a daughter of Hyrum and Violet Hansen Jorgensen. Her mother died in childbirth and her father, knowing Our kind and loving and sister, Dalla loving Dalla and sister, father, knowing Violet's sister, Hilda Watters, and her desire for children, let Gilbert and Hilda Watters raise his daughter as their own. Dalla always felt loved and an important part of the Watters family. Dalla graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1936.

She married Errol Christian Mickelsen, March 31, 1942 in the Manti LDS Temple. He died Aug. 25, 1978. Dalla was an active member of the LDS Church, working as a Junior Sunday School Coordinator, librarian, Sunday School teacher and was a dedicated visiting teacher. She enjoyed Sorosis Club and several Bridge Clubs.

Dalla worked at the Telluride, Turkey Growers and Utah Independent Bank, as a secretary-bookkeeper during her life and was a dedicated, loving mother as well. She will be missed by many, but most of all by her family. She is survived by her children: Melanee and Robert Burr, Bountiful; Eroyln and John Albrecht, St. George; MiShele and Larry Shaheen, Eddie G. and Loralee Mickelsen, all of Salina; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grand children; sisters: Neva and Allen Crane, Salina; Naomi and Mark Pickett, Gunnison.

She was preceded in death by both sets of parents: Hyrum and Violet Jorgensen, Gilbert and Hilda Watters, her husband and a brother, Terrance Jorgensen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 12 noon in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Redmond Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. Eaton Charles Everett Eaton, age 75, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2002, from complications following heart surgery. Born Feb 15, 1927 in Midwest, WY to Walter Biven and Nellie Angell Eaton. He was the third of seven children. He married Laurel E. Fernelius April 16, 1948.

They had 54 years of years in the U.S. Navy during World wonderful marriage. He served 5 four War Il and worked 35 years for Mountain After he retired they traveled extensively. He is survived by his wife; children, Daniel Charles Eaton, Donald Everett (Kathleen) Eaton, Mark Lorin Eaton, Denise Laurel (Brent) Sheffield, and Laurelan E. (Dave) Stull; 17 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rose; and a brother, Roy. Services will be Wed June 19, 2002 10 a.m., Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Dr. Friends may call Tues 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Aldro Craig Garner Aldro Craig Garner, 51, passed away in Sacramento, California on June 14, 2002 after a long illness. He was born May 2, 1951. He was raised in Bountiful, Utah by loving parents, Aldro T. and Beulah Larsen Garner.

He lived in Utah and California other than the time he served his country in the Army. While living in Utah he worked at Hill Air Force Base and managed Wendy's restaurant franchise. He is survived by his children, Steven, Kim and Julie; three grandchildren, Sierra, Kyler, and Aidan; two brothers, Gary and Bruce; sister Joyce and stepmother, Nelda Riedel. Craig lived his life with courage, and he will be missed by the many people who loved him and whose lives he touched. Denese Van leperen "Together Forever" Our beloved mother, "Granny," and great-grandmother, Denese Katherine Spencer Van leperen, passed away June 15, 2002, in Salt Lake City. Born May 31, 1913, El Paso, TX the daughter of George and Amanda Peterson Spencer.

Married Henry Dirk Van leperen Nov 17, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death Feb 3, 1994. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. Denese was a long time dedicated employee of Dan's Drug and was a friend to everyone. Survivors include children, Robert H.

Van leperen, Evie Brewerton (Brent), Roger Livingston (Debbi), all of Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. prior to the services. Interment, Grantsville Cemetery. Calvin J. Orgill Calvin J. Orgill, 76, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother and friend died June 13, 2002 at his home in Draper, Utah.

He was born March 12, 1926 to Alonzo John and Christie May Brown Orgill in Draper, Utah. He was their second child and oldest son. He attended Draper Elementary, Draper Jr. High and Jordan High School. After high school, he joined the Navy, serving on a LST vessel in the Pacific.

This was during World War He was a member of the LDS Church. Calvin married Myrtle Irene Osborne on June 2, 1948. They are the parents of two sons: Jack C. and Jerry Orgill. At the time of his marriage, he was working for Delta Truck Lines, so he and Myrt lived in Delta, Utah for a short time.

They, then, moved to Draper just down the street from where he lived as a child and that is where they raised their family. Calvin worked for the Salt Lake County Shops for more than 30 years, retiring as head of the electrical department. He could fix anything and was well known for his willingness to help others. He enjoyed working in his garden, always sharing the produce with neighbors and friends. Calvin was a man of many talents, he not only loved working with wood, but he crocheted and did leather work as well.

Many are recipients of his handiwork. He also had an interest in model railroading and at one time had a complete layout in the chicken coop behind the house. Calvin is survived by his sons: Jack and Jerry (Lori); his former daughterin-law, Lynne; his grandchildren: Aimee (Jeff Steiner, Angie, Jenny, Jackson (Lindsay), Christie, Chelsie, and Chantel; great-grandchildren, Zion and Alex; and brothers, Merlin and Ivan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrt, his parents, and a sister, Reva. A special thanks to Karen, Valerie, and Shannon from Rocky Mountain Hospice for the care given and kindness shown to Calvin and the family.

Sheila Sandall Page PRICE- Our beloved Sheila Page, passed away at the after an extended illness at her home in Price on June 15, 2002 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 12, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Max W. and Lillie Fern Rose Sandall. She married Mark Parker Page on December 14, 1968 in the Manti Temple.

She attended Davis High School graduating in 1967 then continued her education at Utah State graduating with a BA in Elementary Education and Social Work in 1971. She enjoyed scrap booking, crocheting, cross-stitching, reading, camping, fishing. She also will be known for her teaching abilities, for which she was named teacher of the year in '92-93 while teaching at Creekview Elementary School. Also piano playing and most of all, playing with her grandchildren. She has been an active member of the LDS Church and served many callings including President, Counselor, and teacher in the Primary, also the Relief Society and young womens.

She was a den mother, Hospice Volunteer, room mother, and taught Fourth grade for five years at Durrant Elementary, and Third grade at Creekview Elementary for eight years. She is survived by her husband Mark Page of Price; her children Heidi (Steven) Gutierrez, of Price; Curtis (Rhondalyn) Page of South Pasadena, CA; Holly (Mark) Potter of Salt Lake; Cory (Melissa) Page of Henderson, NV; Heather (Daniel) Hales of Henderson, NV; 13 grandchildren, Mother Fern Sandall of Kaysville; Sister Tamara (Reed) Judd of Salt Lake and a brother Craig Sandall of Kaysville. Also several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Max W. Sandall.

Ronna Lea Brooks Steadman "Nana" Ronna Lea Brooks Steadman, 65, passed away June 16, 2002 in Sandy, Utah after a courageous battle with illness. She is finally free. Born May 25, 1937 in Portland, OR, to John Leroy Brooks and Norma Liljenquist.

Married Jay Melvin Steadman in Elko, on April 17, 1954. She had a great love for music and all forms of nature, and was a science-fiction buff. She was a strongwilled, but incredibly tender woman. Her legacy was that she instilled the value of education and the exploration of the world in her children. Survived by husband, Jay; sons, Micheal Jay (Kathy), Anthony Lynn (Linda), Timothy Charles (Carol), John Norman, and Gregory Andrew (Ron); 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grand children; brother, Vear Leroy (Bud) Brooks; and sister, Michelle Kay Garcio.

Barbara Matthews Ackerman NORTH SALT LAKE Barbara Matthews Ackerman of North Salt Lake, died Sunday morning at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who served the Lord throughout her life both in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which she joined in 1968, and previously in the Methodist Church. She is a native of Dover, New Jersey and moved to Utah following the death of her husband, Clifford in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Jim Ackerman of Riverton; Bruce Ackerman of Providence and "Kip" Ackerman of Holmes Beach, Florida; along with their spouses and 14 grandchildren. Leonard D. Bell Leonard D. Bell died June 15, 2002 of natural causes. Born March 3, 1913 in Sait Lake City, Utah to Frank and Louise Andersen Bell. He was a master wood carver and shared many of his works with family and friends.

Larry retired as Vice President and General Manager of Steel Corp. He was a very kind and gentle man who had a special way with children and animals. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed fishing with his granddaughters. Larry spent the last 20 years pursuing his love of racing quarter horses. His unique and dry sense of humor drew people to him and made him unforgettable.

Always a gracious host, he loved to share good food and a bottle of wine with family and friends. grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, and friend. died following a short illness June 14, 2002. in Omaha, Nebraska on his way home from attending the open house of the Nauvoo, Illinois Temple. Rex was born May 24, 1928. in Salt Lake City, UT to Kenneth and Relia Ence Curtis.

He married Marjorie White 50 years ago June 5. 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Rex earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees and a secondary teaching certificate from the University of Utah. He enjoyed a 36-year distinguished career as an educator in the fields of Biology and Earth Sciences. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Granite District Mill Hollow Science Center for outdoor education, and spent 29 summers 35 a teacher and manager.

Rex spent 13 years as director of Environmental Education Workshops for Utah State Department of Education and earned numerous honors including: Granite District Teacher of the Year, Utah State Teacher of the Year, and national Outstanding Biology Teacher. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many capacities including scoutmaster, high counselor, bishop of Kenwood 2nd Ward, temple worker, and docent at the Church Museum of History and Art. Rex served as a young missionary in the South Africa Mission and later with his wife in the South Africa Johannesburg Mission, being assigned to Swaziland and Botswana. Rex is survived by his wife; six children, Norman (Billie Jo), David (Deanne), Bruce (Susan), Carolyn Reynolds (Aaron), Ralph (Cheryl), Richard (Stefanie); 15 grandchildren, Julie, Michelle, Jenny, Jeff, Mike, Ellen (missionary Dominican Republic Santiago), Emily, Debbie, Andrew (missionary Connecticut Hartford), Nathan, Sarah, Stephen, Rebecca, Hannah and Spencer; four great-grandchildren, Justin, Kylee, Tamelia, Kari Ann; and siblings, Jack (Betty). Brett L. Peterson Brett L. Peterson age 36. loving dad, son, and brother, passed on to the arms of his Father in Heaven June 13, 2002. He was born May 8, 1966 in Salt Lake City to Lawrence M.

and Vicki Sanders Peterson. Brett was a successful retailer and worked in management for many years for Reams and Albertson's. At the time of his passing, he was fulfilling his dream to expand his education at the University of Utah. Brett loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid outdoorsman. Fish Lake was his special place, where he had fond memories with family and friends.

He was gifted in art and had a way of making things beautiful. Brett loved his children and family with all his heart. He showed compassion and unconditional love to all, and all who knew him loved him. He had a special smile that could light up the world. He patterned his life in the example set by his grandfather, Ellis Sanders, whom he loved and adored.

Brett is survived by his four beautiful children: Ashley, Geoffrey, Zackary, Melanie, and former wife, Lori; brother, Matt Peterson; sisters: Tara Peterson and Nicole Malloy; parents; special friend, Cassandra Cunningham. Cathie Ann Roberts Israelsen away peacefully Our beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully the evening of June 14, 2002, after a long fight with breast cancer. Cathie was born the first child of Robert R. Roberts and LaVona Christensen Roberts Oct 12, 1954, in Salt Lake City, UT. She was a beautiful child who matured into a stunning, outgoing woman who loved life.

Cathie graduated from Olympus High School in 1973. She spent most of her professional career at Mountain High Properties, where she worked as a commercial real estate agent and property manager. On April 22, 1989, Cathie married the love of her life, Dr. L. Douglas Israelsen.

Cathie loved animals, especially cats. She was famous for rescuing strays and finding homes for them. Her two kitties, Dexter and Jake, were her constant companions during her illness. They are going to miss their mom greatly. Cathie also loved her horses, and missed being able to ride as her illness progressed.

She leaves behind her favorite horse, Dancer. Friends were very important to Cathie. She had a warm, friendly, caring way about her. Everyone who knew her loved her. If she was your friend, you felt very special for having her in your life.

She will be greatly missed by all. Cathie is survived by her husband, Dr. L. Douglas Israelsen; father, Robert R. Roberts; sister, Julie (Ed) Pratt; brother, Steven (Rosalie) Roberts; stepdaughters, Amie (Craig) Wyatt parents of six children, Anne-Marie (Brad) Halverson, parents of three children, Shelly Israelsen, Emily Israelsen, Jennifer Israelsen, and Laura Israelsen.

Her mother, LaVona C. Roberts, preceded her in death. We would like to thank Dr. Kent DiFiore and his staff for the loving care and kindness given to Cathie during her illness; and also Dr. Greg Miller and Care Source Hospice for their comfort and concern.

A memorial service will be Thurs. June 20, 2002, 11 a.m., Red Butte Gardens (Lower Garden) 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, UT. A gathering of friends will also take place Wed. June 19, 2002, p.m., Goff Mortuary 8090 S. State, Midvale.

Following the memorial service Thurs, interment will take place 500 at Olivet Cemetery, 1342 1:30 p.m. Roland M. Smith, 82, died June 14, 2002 in Salt Lake City. He was born May 13, 1920 to Alene Beckstead and Roland M. Smith Sr.

in Salt Lake City. Graduated from South High School where he played football in 1938. He married Helen Vogeleron Sept. 20, 1942. Survived his wife; daughter Stacey Anne Smith, M.D..

NYC; sister Doris Gusavson (Arle), St. George, Utah; brother, Wade, Colorado Springs, Co; brother-in-law Howard E. Vogeler, Bountiful; sister-in-law. Adele Collipriest; and many loving nieces and nephews. A brother, Commander Gene A.

Smith USN, preceded him in death. He was navigator of the "Hells Angels 303rd Bomb German POW for two years. Awarded the Air Medal with oak leaf clusters and the purple heart. Retired from the Air Force as a Major. He loved his church, his CPA pructice, his friends and neighbors and most of all his family.

He was a man of honesty, integrity and performed many anonymous acts of kindness. He was a great dad and husband and we will always love and miss him. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center for their excellent care given to Roland. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 19, 2002 at 12 Noon at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland where friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

Selma H. Troescher Selma H. Troescher, passed away June fully at her home in Salt Lake City surrounded by her five loving children. Her great example of faithfulness, sacrifice and endurance will forever be remembered by her family and those who knew her. She was born 90 years young, 13, 2002, peace- 1912 in Marysville, age Sandall of 52 Idaho to Horace M.

and Carrie Humphreys. She graduated from Ashton High School, then moved to Pocatello, Idaho where she graduated from cosmetology school In 1940 she married William L. Troescher in Pocatello, Idaho, later making their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and delighted in bringing her children and grandchildren together. People were important to her and she made many a part of her life.

Everyone who knew her loved her. She happily served as a volunteer worker for many community services and received recognition for 2000 hours of service as a pink lady auxiliary worker in the Idaho Falls Hospital. She retired as a beautician at age 87. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints where she willingly served in many church callings. She also served in the idaho Falls IDS Temple for 30 years.

She is survived by her loving children: Terry of Norwalk, CA; Betty Patrick of Salt Lake City, UT; LaRita Godfrey (Gordon) of Sandy, UT; Ted (Deeann) of Idaho Falls, ID; LeAnn Ostergaard (Steve) of Salt Lake UT; JoAnn Troescher of Artesia, CA: 18 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by husband William L. Troescher; parents, Horace M. and Carrie Humphreys; granddaughter Becky Jo Woolsey and two brothers, Walter and Leonard Humphreys. A very special thank you to all of Selma's care-givers at Highland Care Center, Regent Assisted Living and Hospice of Utah, for their comfort and concern.

You were wonderfui and she loved you very much. Services will be held at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Idaho Falls, ID, Friday June 21 st, at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call one hour prior to services from 10 10:45 a.m. A gathering of friends and family will also take place Thursday June 20th at Wood Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Interment, Rose Hill Cemetery.
